  1. Cromer Pier Announced as Pier of the Year 2024

Cromer Pier has been crowned Pier of the Year 2024 by The National Piers Society, a coveted award for the iconic Norfolk landmark. This is the third time that Cromer Pier has won the award, with previous wins in 2000 and 2015.

Known as the gem of the North Norfolk coast, Cromer Pier is a grade II listed, 151m structure that is home to the Pavilion Theatre. One of only five UK seaside piers with a fully flourishing theatre, Cromer Pier is home to the only end of pier show of its kind in the world, now in its 47th year. Enjoyed by generations of visitors, 2023 marked a landmark winter season as The Cromer Pier Christmas Show saw record-breaking ticket sales.

Sean Garrett, General Manager of Cromer Pier, comments “The whole team has been working extremely hard, since the pandemic, to get things back to the new normal. That includes working in partnership with North Norfolk District Council (NNDC), who not only keep the pier in great shape, but also help to improve our customer’s experience.”

The pier is operated by Openwide Coastal Ltd and includes Tides Bistro, gift shop, food & beverage kiosks, regional Pavilion Theatre and recently upgraded Pavilion Bar.

Cllr. Tim Adams, Leader of North Norfolk District Council said: “This is a wonderful 123rd birthday present for Cromer Pier, recognising the scale of investment that has or is due to take place, with the bar, structure, and in future with the dressing rooms. It also comes during a year when the seafront is seeing major investment in sea defences, which will be a spectacle itself. We are delighted with this award, which reflects the dedication of our own Property Services Team, Openwide Coastal with their unique offer, and all who contribute to the pier in many ways. We are so lucky to be in the position we are with our pier, with so many other towns nationally having struggled to maintain their own.”

Sarah Hunter, Managing Director of Openwide Coastal adds “As the operator of Cromer Pier, it is an honour for us to receive recognition for our continued investment into the shows, events, restaurant, bar and retail shop on Cromer Pier. It is an absolute pleasure working in partnership with NNDC to improve the pier and theatre offer for both locals and tourists, ensuring visitors are delighted for years to come. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the NPS members who voted for Cromer Pier as Pier of the Year 2024.”

Cromer Pier is committed to help keep variety alive in the theatre, continuing to invest heavily in the beloved Cromer Pier Show and Christmas Show. The Cromer Pier Show returns to the stage for the summer of 2024, running from 29th June to 28th September.

Thanks to your generosity we have already raised over £4,800 for Cancer Research UK with bucket collections during the Cromer Pier Christmas Show in 2022.    We couldn’t have done it without you, but this is just the beginning of our fundraising journey throughout 2023 for Cancer Research UK in memory of Jo.

What Your Money Can Buy? – Click here to find out

For over 25 years, Joanna Raby, better known as ‘Front Row Jo’, never missed a night of the summer or Christmas Cromer Pier Shows.   She sat in the same seat in the front row for every performance and was one of the Pier’s biggest supporters, even having her seat named after her in 2015 in recognition of her support.

After a short illness, Jo sadly passed away in August 2022 from pancreatic cancer.  In her honour her seat, A17 will now remain empty for every performance of the summer and Christmas Cromer Pier Shows

Jo’s Pier family are keen to raise money for Cancer Research in her memory.   Apart from this page, we have a donation link when buying tickets, the team will hold fundraising events throughout the year and have bucket collections for audiences at the end of shows.

The money that we raise will help fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Please view Cromer Pier’s giving page below along with her wonderful photos and heartwarming story:

On behalf of Joanna’s family and the pier team  we would like to sincerely thank you for your generosity.  We know that things are difficult right now but whatever you can spare will make a big difference.
