A Classical Ballet Treat This Easter

5th April 2017 2:23 pm

A classical ballet treat for Easter

The team always look  forward to the annual Easter ballet offering from the magical Vienna Festival Ballet and this Easter is no exception as we look forward to the production of the classical tale of Cinderella.  We had a catch up with Sarah who let us in on some privileged behind the scenes facts and gossip. (you will be amazed at the last fact!)

Sarah told us, the company start rehearsals four to five weeks before the tour starts.    You can visit social media sites for updates and pictures on how rehearsals are going.   Facebook and Twitter pages @ViennaFestivalB

Sarah, can you tell us a little about the designing of sets and costumes and how the process works?

Peter Mallek, the Company’s Artistic Director and founder, and Sheila Styles, the company’s most expert choreographer, from the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet have lengthy (very lengthy!) discussions to come up with designs and ideas. These ideas are taken to a designer who hand paints all the scenery and backcloths.  All costumes are then handmade by our costume makers under the guidance of our experienced wardrobe mistress – the set painters and wardrobe teams work to bring the ideas alive to what you see on stage.

What is the favourite tour bus snack?   Chocolate! (really!  surely not)

Vienna Festival Ballet aims to provide the great classical ballets to theatres nationwide for audiences of all ages and Cinderella is no exception. The classic tale of Cinderella one of the best-known rags-to-riches fairy tales of all time. A mistreated young girl, a glass slipper, two comical ugly step-sisters and a handsome prince combine to make the perfect piece of story-telling. Based on the traditional story this ballet interpretation will surely touch and reach out to everyone’s heart, with its combination of pure classical dancing and a touch of pantomime The music, by Rossini, contains a collection of his most famous operatic achievements and has been especially arranged for and recorded for Vienna Festival Ballet.

As always we bring exquisite and lavish handmade costumes, beautiful sets which project colour and vitality to enhance the workings of the dancers, choreographer and the composer.  Cinderella will have all the elegance and extravagance associated with the best of ballet, and of course some of the best ballet dancers from around the world.
